Anxiety & OCD
Ever feel like anxiety is in the driver’s seat, choosing your destination? Like you just can’t stop worrying? Like you’re constantly on edge? Without tools to cope, it can sometimes feel like anxiety, panic, and intrusive thoughts/worries are taking over your life. Therapy can help you/your child regain control and develop skills to manage distressing thoughts and feelings. I offer treatment for the following anxiety-related conditions:
- Social anxiety
- Panic attacks
- Phobias
- Excessive worries/Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Intrusive thoughts/Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Separation anxiety
Research suggests some key factors that make some people more likely to experience these concerns than others. For example, some of us tend to feel our feelings more strongly than others, find it harder to tolerate uncertainty, and/or get stuck on our worries more easily than others. Your genetic make-up and your past experiences interact to influence these characteristics.
In therapy, I will help you/your child develop coping skills to regulate emotions, challenge fears and worries, address unhelpful thinking patterns, stop avoiding difficult situations, and build healthy relationships. My approach draws on cognitive behavioral therapy with a strong emphasis on exposure and response prevention. I also incorporate strategies from acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and interpersonal therapy.
